How to listen to your own intuition - Part One

I'm an intuitive being. I live my life through a lens of intuition and interpretation of that intuition. Meaning I see the world through emotion, intuition, and a feeling about things. Until recently I thought all people lived this way. Now I realize how naive this may sound but I just assumed I was like everyone else. I do believe that everyone has the ability to tune into their intuition but not many live their life from such an emotional hot spot. Before I go much further let me define intuition. Here is a direct definition, "the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning." This pretty much sums it up. Let me quickly describe what it feels like - a very sure knowing at the base of my stomach. When I experience a intuitive read or story about a person or a particular situation I get a knot in my gut, my heart races, my voice gets shaky, and my palms sweat until I move that energy out by sharing the story I'm getting.

Getting from where exactly? I have no clue. Really. I have no idea! And I'm ok with that. And I can confidently say that 99% of the time this random knowing is on point. It comes with some burden which I'll share in Part Two. The purpose of today's post is to introduce you to why your intuition is a vital source for living your most purposeful and joyful life and how to tune into it.

The benefits of utilizing your intuition are big and very helpful. Your intuition is your inner-guide and as far as I can tell from my own education this inner-knowing is connected to your higher-self. A self not of your mind or of your personality but of total love and acceptance that transcends body and time. It comes from a collective energy. Imagine always having a guide in your life who knows just the way to go, the path to take, the decision to make, the answer you need to hear. You have that within you right now. This is your intuition. It's neutral and does not judge. It merely exists to keep you on your unique path to happiness and fulfillment.

What happens when we tune our intuition out or ignore it all together? I have to preface this by stating that I'm no expert. I'm just a girl with a heightened sense of awareness and this is what I've seen or personally experienced when you ignore your intuition.

  • Fear
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Overwhelm or confusion
  • Pain
  • Indigestion
  • Headaches
  • Anger
  • Feel aimless or directionless

Like I said, I'm no expert but I have seen these consistently come through when you ignore your intuition. Why? Because for the most part these are all physical symptoms, something you can feel. When you can't access your intuition easily or are making choices out of synch with your higher-self this is how your higher-self gets your attention.

You would agree that paying attention to your intuition is important but what if you don't know how? Where should you start? Here are 3 tips for tuning into your intuition:

Pay attention

Start to simply notice and pay attention to what internal messages or dialogues might already be going on. If there is a particular situation in your life that needs solving tune into yourself and just ask, "What does my gut tell me?" Move to the next step.

Notice what comes up immediately

Once you ask this listen to what immediately comes through for you! It doesn't get more true than this. Your intuition won't always deliver the easiest solution or answer that makes everything feel better. It's role is to show you the path no matter what that path is.

Part of what makes listening to your own intuition tricky is trusting it. There's no reason that anyone can definitely show for why we experience intuitive moments. You can't see it or touch it but you can feel it. Big time. Accept this part of you as being real even without some concrete explanation.

In Part Two I'll share a little about what burden this intuitive life lends and what I want to do with this gift. Plus I will share how your journal gives you direct access to your intuition or inner-wise voice. Thank you for being here. -Andrea
