10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living by Brené Brown
In 2015, I wrote a 10-part series based on one of my very favorite books, The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown. Each week for 10 weeks I shared one journal prompt for each guidepost from the book. To date, this was by far my most popular series.
Even now, four years later, each guidepost has not only not gone out of fashion, they’ve had the affect of moving even deeper into my life. There’s a simplicity in her work that delivers the truth of it all with the lightness of a feather.
Work of this depth can often come with the feeling one is trekking through mud to find water. You go because there’s a benefit to the other side but the sludging through the gunk of your life makes you wonder, “Why am I doing this?”
Then, along comes someone who says, in a way, yes you will get your butt kicked in being brave with your life. But you will not, oddly, be alone and in the company of yourself and others.
I think because this book is so validating. Brené’s work on shame, vulnerability, the risk of belonging and more has given such validity to our fears of rejection and why connection is so important.
I love sharing this series with new readers. You will find each guidepost below, then scroll for your free Journal Workbook including a journal prompt per guidepost to use with the book.
First – I encourage you to read the book in full. It’s a quick but very relevant read! Although I’ll be giving a synopsis of each guidepost it’s important that you have a framework for what we’re discussing here.
